reynoldsware

A friend of mine sent me the link to Daniel Reynolds' website, and I was breathtaken! I poured over every inch of his website. Reynoldsware is a line of contemporary porcelain ware. Daniel Reynolds being the mastermind behind these organic porcelain pieces is located in London. He works with molds and takes everyday items, makes a mold of them, then creates these beautiful almost translucent looking vessels. Visit his website if you want to see more of these amazing pieces.

custom wedding jewelry!

I've had the pleasure of working with some brides and making custom bridesmaid jewelry this summer. Believe it or not, but making necklaces for bridesmaids is how "lily pottery" all got started! about a year ago I had one of my husband's friend's fiancee on the West coast saw a picture of my jewelry and asked if I'd be interested in making it for her bridesmaids. I hadn't sold a single necklaces yet, I had only made it for me and my sister to wear. I was a bit nervous to accept this offer, due-to-the fact I had never met her or her bridesmaids, and I had NO idea anyone would really want to wear pottery around their neck! I went ahead and said yes and got busy making the necklace and earring sets. The bride didn't see the jewerly until we flew out the California the week of the wedding!!!! i was SO nervous, but when she saw the sets she loved them. I still was nervous and wondered what the bridesmaids would think. At the rehearsal dinner they opened the boxes and all squealed with delight letting me know they loved it. So from then on, the rest is history!

So when a bride asks me to make jewelry for her wedding party, I love to do it. it's a bit sentimental for me because it always reminds me of how all this got started! The necklaces above are for a fall wedding this coming November.

face jugs!!!

Yesterday was the last day of art camp and the kids finished up their face jugs. They sure had some wild and crazy faces! We had a blast finishing up the pots and glazing today. For those of you who aren't familiar with "face jugs" the vessels are a form of American folk art that are believed to have originated out of the South Carolina slave potters. The originals were created in the early 1800's. They were functional artistic expressions of the African slave culture.

summer art camp!

Yesterday and today I am helping out with the Greenville Art Museum Art Camp. I am working with the middle school YMCA kids and we're having a blast. We are working on "face jugs". We formed the bases yesterday and the kids also had their try at wheel throwing. Today we will finish up handbuilding the jug then adding the facial features. The kids have sketches of the faces they want on their jugs. We had so much fun yesterday and I'm looking forward to today. I'll try to snap a few pictures of their pots and post them later tonight or tomorrow.

some finished products!

Thanks to all who came out to the show this past weekend. We had a great crowd and the music and food were a hit!!! Here's a few photos I snapped at the show of the pieces that were "fresh out of the kiln". I'm looking forward to working on some more tall organic white vases! I got some great feedback on the glazed and finished ones and looking forward to working on more!

doubling up...

these horizontal necklaces have been a smashing hit this summer and spring. they are so elegant and simple. recently, I had a customer come in and ask me to make her two horizontal necklaces at different lengths so she could wear two at the same time...what a brilliant idea! I have been "doubling up" ever since and have had several other requests from regular customers who want this same look. I've created quite a few new necklaces for this show do to the large interest in "doubling up" so go for it ladies, get your two favorites and double up..the possibilities are endless!
